Rome in One Week: How to Experience It Without Burnout
A practical and immersive way to explore Rome’s history, food, and neighborhoods.
Landing at Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO), I took the Leonardo Express train into Termini Station — fast and efficient. Taxis are a flat rate (~€50) into central Rome. Rome is not a city you “cover” — it’s a city you absorb. I stayed near Trastevere, which I highly recommend. It’s slightly removed from the main tourist areas but full of character, narrow streets, and excellent restaurants. The major sites are unavoidable: Colosseum Roman Forum Vatican Museums & St. Peter’s Basilica But what I enjoyed most was walking between them — passing fountains, ruins, and churches that would be major attractions in any other city. Food matters here. I ate at Da Enzo al 29 in Trastevere — one of the best carbonaras I’ve had. Also try supplì (fried rice balls) from small takeaway spots. Mid summer heat can be overwhelming, so plan accordingly and stay hydrated. Evenings are best spent wandering — Rome feels most alive after sunset.
