Mykonos: Beaches, Nightlife, and How to Do It Right
A practical guide to balancing Mykonos’ party scene with quieter, more authentic experiences
Flying into Mykonos Airport (JMK), I took a short taxi ride (10–15 minutes) into Mykonos Town (Chora). It’s expensive for such a short distance, but public buses are limited depending on arrival time. Chora is the heart of the island — whitewashed buildings, narrow lanes, and constant movement. Staying just outside the centre gives you access without the noise. The iconic areas are: Little Venice (sunset views over the water) Windmills of Kato Mili The maze-like streets around Matogianni Street Beaches are the real draw. I visited: Psarou Beach (upscale, expensive) Paraga Beach (more relaxed) Paradise Beach (party-focused) Food ranges widely. I had an excellent seafood dinner near Little Venice, but prices reflect the island’s popularity. Nightlife is intense. Even if you’re not there to party, it’s worth experiencing briefly. What I’d do differently: Stay in a quieter beach area and visit Chora in the evenings.
