Toronto in 3 Days: Neighbourhood Travel
A city best explored district by district.
Kensington Market, Little Italy, Libert Village, Yorkville, Queen West, and the Toronto Islands gave me a full sense of the city. The skyline from the islands is better than any tower view. Of course seeing the City from the top of the CN Tower on clear day is quite remarkable, or book dinner or lunch there and site as you are revolved around to see the whole city. Walking around the financial core of Canada, at King and Bay is a unique experience. Walk further on King Street and you get into the Entertainment district with many fine theatres there, and of course elsewhere around the core. Front Street west contains the iconic Fairmont Royal York, once the tallest free standing building in the British Commonwealth. A ten minute walk south under the expressway lands your on the Queen’s Quay road, where there are galleries and ferry boats ready to take you across to Toronto Island, where several hours of walking is a nice task for the afternoon. I caught a Blue Jays baseball game in the Rogers Dome. Last winter I caught a Toronto Maple Leafs Hockey game in the Air Canada Centre, and I got a chance to tour the Hockey Hall of Fame, back 10 minutes north from the hockey arena. The provincial parliament buildings are north 20 minutes by foot, or three stops by the subway, and after that I suggest going 5 minutes north to the Royal Ontario Museum. On your next trip try the Ontario Art Galley down town west, and then the McMichael Gallery by car is north of the City and houses early Canadian art including from the Group of Seven. Toronto is one place where you can get to chose a restaurant from most anywhere in the world, as Toronto houses the largest population of expats from many countries. Airport access is mainly from the Pearson Airport, but small planes fly to the Island Airport. There is train service from Pearson to Downtown, as is there public transit. A nice safe city to visit
