Algarve: Portugal’s Best Coastline

The Algarve is best explored by car. Flying into Faro Airport (FAO), I rented a car and headed west toward Lagos, which I found to be the best base. The coastline here is dramatic: Ponta da Piedade cliffs Praia Dona Ana Benagil Cave Driving allows you to stop at viewpoints and beaches that buses can’t easily reach. Lagos itself is relaxed, with a mix of restaurants and nightlife. Seafood is the highlight — fresh, simple, and widely available. What I’d do differently: Stay longer — the coast deserves time.
